Artist Biography
Brittany Humphrey has been studying Interior Architecture at Endicott for the past four years. While being a full time student and working, she is a girlfriend to a deployed Marine, and this is where her thesis idea derived from. Focusing much of her time in and out of school on the USMC, she felt the compassion to research more about the support system of spouses of marines. Deployments bring to the surface many emotions and feelings, and it was her mission to create a community center on a base that would help resolve these feelings for all significant others and children. Combining her interest in residential and commercial design, she created a space that acts as a safe haven but offers more than a typical home would to those whose significant other is deployed.
Thesis Abstract
Center Fidelis is a community center for spouses of deployed Marines currently residing on Camp Lejeune in NC. The center positively impacts the morale of a Marine family going through a loved one’s deployment with spaces to bring these families together. While the aesthetic is a relaxing, comforting home, it provides the users with cafe spaces, libraries, screen room, craft hubs, and pods through the space to interact as they please. This is a center built for the families.
