Thesis Abstract

The Burford Highway Marketplace explores how food and gathering spaces can be used as a method of increasing a community’s cultural competency and decreasing the mainstream customer’s neocolonial attitudes toward other cultures. The Marketplace aims to highlight the immigrant businesses seen along Buford Highway and giving the people of Atlanta the opportunity to interact with members of the immigrant community. An integrated co-working space will give local entrepreneurs exposure to immigrants and can work alongside immigrant business owners.
