Thesis Abstract
Along the Clothes Line
The most influential person in my childhood was my mother spent the majority of my childhood finding ways to show me how much a woman can do and that I could do anything I put my mind to, regardless of my gender. She inspired me to follow my dreams and that no one can stand in my way except for yourself. So for the newest series of work, I wanted to make something that would not only say something about events and issues in today’s society, but something I could do to show my mother how much she means to me. The people that I have represented in my work are the ones that have raised me and supported me; they are the ones that have given me the most inspiration in my life.
My artwork creates vibrant colors within itself, allowing the viewer to get to know the subject of the piece. The colors come from deep inside me, and the core of how I see my models. Color makes what they become, so the highlights and shadows that I add to the final skin tone of my model are so important. These colors add to the personality of the models and allow the viewer to see deeper into who they truly are.
I believe it is important to acknowledge women’s rights and the hard work that women do in our society; and these paintings have strived from the faith I was raised to believe. I am hoping my paintings will create a consensus among people to become aware of women’s equality and lead them to better appreciate the women in their lives.
