Thesis Abstract
One Ride.
Motorcycles have always deeply intrigued me. I cannot remember a time when I have seen a motorcycle and not starred after it longingly. Originally I had the idea to do a photo series on motorcycles and focusing on the mechanics and the small details, but I discovered that what really interested me was the feelings that motorcycles gave the rider. Through interviews I embarked on an exploration of the collective and individual experiences that riders had with their motorcycles. Motorcycles express a different aspect of life; they represent and evoke feelings of freedom for the rider. The question of why people ride, and what aspects of riding compel them to continue riding for so long is my focus. The larger truth became evident as I talked to more people. Despite different ages, backgrounds, and whatever else may separate them in their day to day lives, when they get on the back of their bike and put on their helmets, they become connected through a shared love for motorcycles. “One Ride” is a short film that demonstrates the collective experience of riders that unites them.
