Artist Biography
Hannah Daigle fell in love with stopping time through still images when she was 12 years old and she’s been telling people to sit still ever since. Being a mixed woman herself, her work explores the identity of young black and mixed women and her goal is to create images that are grounded in the moment yet timeless.
Thesis Abstract
Throughout the history of photography, black women have struggled with attaining ownership and agency over the images created of them. Through fostering conversation and mutual understanding my subjects and I have created a series of photographs of black women, by black women, for black women. I elevate my subjects through powerful poses, and the intentionally simplified backgrounds create space for the viewer to take in the natural beauty of each individual.
