Thesis Abstract

My film, Community Committed, brings an understanding of the everyday challenges faced by police officers serving the community of Gloucester, MA, and shows the important role police officers take on, which is often overlooked. I approached this film by profiling a few officers as they go about their daily routines, which includes the community volunteer work they do while off duty. Although the police officers serving in Gloucester may face different challenges from those working in larger cities, they encounter similar obstacles. For example, how to protect and serve their community during a pandemic and policing during a time where there has been an increase in calls for racial justice and putting an end to police brutality. The officers serving in Gloucester are committed to excellence in law enforcement and are dedicated to the people, traditions, and diversity of the city.
