Artist Biography
Alex Whipple is a senior at Endicott College who will be graduating with a BFA in Interior Design. Alex’s thesis was inspired by her family, who have been involved with emergency services for her whole life. This project presented her with the exciting design challenge of creating a space that redefines the role of mental health in first responder culture.
Although she was born and raised in Vermont, Alex plans to move to the Boston area after graduation to start her career in commercial interior design.
Thesis Abstract
First responders face traumatic and stressful experiences on a daily basis, which can take a toll on their mental health. A multidimensional treatment option for first responders and their families that combines counseling, mental health education, social support, and mindfulness practices can improve the quality of life for those suffering from PTSD and other mental health disorders.
