Thesis Abstract
House of Sunday is an aging-in-place community for elders who feel it is time to downsize their living environment, and appreciate a sense of independence while still enjoying a sense of community. Designing each space to be rooted in phenomenology and environmental psychology, this home is meant to allow its users to take a step back from the digital distractions of the world, and instead enjoy what is right in front of them. House of Sunday encourages each resident to not use it as a temporary solution, but instead a place where they can grow and embody this way of life. This isn’t the end of a chapter, but instead the beginning of the next stage of their lives. There will be many opportunities presented within the design of the space to allow its users to make new connections with others in their community. Having resources such as a pool, a gym, and even a yoga/ sauna space will encourage each resident to use these utilities and create a new lifestyle that they will look forward to exploring further each day. House of Sunday… home, the way Sundays feel, is the ultimate mission of this residency.
