Miranda Shea

Artist Biography

Miranda will be graduating in the spring with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Architecture. While attending Endicott she has been seen on the Dean’s List and continues to work hard. Miranda shares her ongoing interest in nature in every project she designs. Miranda has completed three internships at residential and commercial firms in Nantucket, MA, Lovango Cay, USVI, and Gloucester, MA. She is ready to start her career in the professional field at a design firm once graduated. She will continue her ongoing education by completing the NCIDQ certification in the future. Miranda’s thesis is inspired by her childhood love for the creative arts as well as the desire to create personal and communal environments that promote an artistic side to those not as fortunate. 

Thesis Abstract

The lack of funding for arts education has become a problem and is affecting children all over the country. The overuse of technology among children is changing their creative perspective on the arts. The need for creative workshops within afterschool programs. There are many benefits that come with teaching creative arts to young children with developing personalities and brains. Creative art is an opportunity for children to express themselves, take risks, and explore self-awareness. Funding for arts education is declining and children’s reliance on technology continues to rise. Reversing this trend is crucial for the well-being of children. 

How can we design an after-school program that provides creative workshops like art, and music that’s beneficial to children that spend too much time on mobile devices and attend schools with a lack of creative arts?
