Artist Biography
A senior at Endicott College, Emma DaSilva hails from the small town of Bristol, Rhode Island but grew up in the East Providence district. Her late great-grandmother, who taught her everything she needed to know about drawing, inspired her to pursue a career in graphic design. For those who do not know Emma, she is an avid athlete and participated in sports such as volleyball, basketball, and softball while competing collegiately on Endicott’s Varsity Softball team. In recent years, she has taken up snowboarding as a hobby and fallen in love with it. Emma finds her home in nature and enjoys the mountainous regions of New Hampshire, where she hopes to reside after college. Besides sports, Emma spends her free time with friends and family and captures photographs of sports and nature. After graduation, she aims to pursue a career as a designer and travel the world.
Thesis Abstract
EDGE Snowboards is a company dedicated to catering to female snowboarders of any skill level. Throughout the history of snowboarding, women have been significantly underrepresented, to the point where they were excluded from participating in competitions. While women are now permitted to compete in the X-Games and the Olympics, there remains a shortage of snowboarding equipment specifically designed for the female physique. In addition to not having snowboards that physically fit the female body, snowboards also do not fit a wide range of female personalities. Moreover, most snowboards marketed as “female” by top snowboarding brands are merely male snowboards with overtly feminine graphics.
EDGE Snowboards sets itself apart from the competition by offering snowboards that are tailored to the female body and come in a wide range of graphics that are not restricted to traditional gender stereotypes. These graphics are daring and vibrant and are designed to reflect the confidence of female snowboarders of all skill levels. In contrast to other snowboarding companies that offer delicate snowboards, EDGE Snowboards provides boards with rugged designs that better reflect the female aura.
In essence, EDGE Snowboards aims to instill confidence, pride, and independence in its clientele and provide a medium of expression that empowers every female snowboarder to be her true self and thrive on the mountain. EDGE Snowboards offers a broad selection of snowboards, as well as accompanying stickers, accessories, and merchandise, all packaged in an exclusive box that guarantees a unique experience for each female purchaser.
