Thesis Abstract
With the recent surge in popularity of big mountain skiing, there has also been an increase in the number of accidents and deaths. This has left both extreme skiers and their families feeling lost and alone. At Hearth House, those affected will be able to come together as a celebratory community of skiers and loved ones to learn about ski culture, gain meaningful relationships, and heal from any pain through both traditional and alternative therapies. Located at the birthplace of extreme skiing in Squaw Valley, CA, Hearth House aims to use a hospitality-based “apres ski” model to create a positive, social environment for people to gather, celebrate, and heal while staying true to the authenticity of ski culture.
