Thesis Abstract
This project focuses on expanding my portfolio to include more commercialized product photography. I have enjoyed experimenting with focus stacking, layered lighting, and macro photography because there are so many looks you can create with them. Usually, I see these techniques used just to create even lighting or a sharp focus across a product. Instead, I use macro photography to zoom in on specific parts of a product. By using focus stacking and layered lighting, I can show many different product details simultaneously in a more artistic way, which sets my photos apart from what many other product photographers are doing.”
I did not start my project with a product photographer as a specific inspiration. However, I was influenced by what I have learned about commercial/product photography and marketing. In these industries, showing off a product’s details is extremely important. As a photographer, it might be difficult to show these products in a perfect way, but by using focus stacking and selective lighting, I am able to show a product in that perfect way that marketing teams hope customers will view their products.
