Thesis Abstract
In response to the alarming decline in both mental and physical health among Americans, there is an urgent need for innovative, holistic approaches to healing. Artsational explores the intersection of ne arts and interior architecture to promote wellness through immersive, sensory-rich environments. Integrating traditional art elements—such as geometry, form, and line—into spatial design, Artsational creates a dynamic physical environment that stimulates emotional and physical responses. Thoughtfully selected materials and lighting schemes are tailored to evoke specific atmospheres, reinforcing the therapeutic intent of each space.
The project features a series of installations and exhibits that subtly incorporate evidence-based healing methods, including red-light therapy, aromatherapy, reflexology, and multi-sensory design strategies. These interventions are carefully embedded within the architectural experience to promote relaxation, balance, and well-being. Artsational is a blueprint for how intentional design, grounded in artistic expression and scientific research, can support health and healing in the built environment.
Artsational seeks to demonstrate how combining ne arts and interior architecture can create a sanctuary for mind-body rejuvenation. Grounded on the principles of creativity and the process of inspiration, Artsational is designed to evoke a creative process in a healing environment. It is a place for healing, observing, experiencing, learning, expressing, and, most importantly, a place for creating. Artsational allows the public to actively heal together while being a part of a new creative community. By cohesively balancing aesthetic with therapeutic
intent, this project serves as a prototype for future wellness spaces, ordering a new design framework that places human health, emotion, and experience at the forefront of design.
