Thesis Abstract
“How can Japanese architecture and wellness practices aid stress in the work place with young professionals in an urban environment”
Japanese architecture and wellness practices can aid stress relief for young professionals in urban environments by creating calming, nature-connected spaces that promote mindfulness and relaxation. A proposed spa located in Soho, New York, applies these practices to promote work-wellness balance. Together, they offer a restorative retreat from the fast-paced corporate world, helping to improve focus, reduce burnout, and support overall health.
The design of Onzen utilizes natural materials that create a minimal design that is organic and serene. The integration of Japanese landscape through each floor brings the outside in and distracts from the urban landscape that awaits outside. The target user group for my project is young to middle-age professionals that are looking to relax after a work day or find a way to create a work-wellness balance in their lives. This spa provides meditation, sauna, onsen baths, tea ceremonies, and community experiences that are executed with curated design and care.
