Thesis Abstract
The Village is a supportive residential facility designed to empower teen parents and their children by providing a safe, stable, and community-focused environment. Inspired by the phrase “It takes a village to raise a child,” the project addresses critical needs such as affordable housing, childcare, education, and emotional support, fostering connection and growth for young families.
Teen parents often face stigma, financial instability, and limited access to resources, making it difficult to complete their education or gain independence. The Village responds through thoughtful design that balances privacy with community engagement. Organized around a central courtyard, it includes residential units, shared amenities, wellness spaces, and resource centers to support both individual and collective wellbeing.
Biophilic design principles and a calming, inclusive palette create a nurturing environment while fostering pride and belonging. By supporting the physical, emotional, and social needs of its residents, The Village offers a foundation for teen parents to thrive and builds a model for stronger, more resilient communities.
