Mazzie Hinsdale

Artist Biography

Originally from Texas, Mazzie Hinsdale came to Endicott College looking for a new environment and the chance to grow personally and professionally. Graduating a semester early, she made the most of her time at Endicott through hands-on experience and creative work in sports media. 

She spent a semester abroad in Florence, Italy, during her sophomore year, and dedicated ve semesters to working in the college’s Sports Information Department. There, she photographed nearly every home sporting event and occasionally traveled with teams to major competitions, gaining practical experience in content creation and sports coverage. 

In Fall 2024, Mazzie managed the Endicott Women’s Volleyball Instagram account, working directly with the team, coaching staff, and Sports Info Department to build and maintain the program’s social media presence. She developed skills in digital storytelling, social strategy, and creative collaboration. 

This fall, Mazzie will return to Texas to join the University of Texas Athletics Creative Team as an intern, continuing to grow her experience in sports media and visual content.

Thesis Abstract

This film explores the remarkable journey of Jack Smiley as he returns to the ice, three years after surviving a debilitating stroke. Centered around his determination to play in his Senior Day hockey game, the documentary highlights Jack’s unwavering commitment to recovery and his pursuit of living life to the fullest. 

Through his physical and emotional rehabilitation, Jack has discovered a renewed sense of self—marked by resilience, confidence, and fearlessness. His return to hockey is not the end of his journey, but a milestone in an ongoing mission to redefine life after stroke. 

Beyond the rink, Jack collaborates with his physician, Dr. Lin, at Massachusetts General Hospital, contributing to ongoing stroke research and advocacy. He also uses his Instagram platform to inspire and connect with other stroke survivors, offering hope and encouragement to those facing similar challenges. 

This project is not only a portrait of personal triumph—it is a testament to the power of perseverance, the impact of community, and the possibility of a vibrant life after adversity.
