Thesis Abstract

This capstone project investigates the importance of children’s literature on children’s upbringings, academic and life skills, and overall happiness. My research focuses on three main areas: the role of literature in children’s education, the importance of diversity in children’s books, and the portrayal of the characters in children’s books. All these categories support the necessity of encouraging children to read and explore their imaginations. For my capstone art project, I created a children’s book titled “The Amazing Amazon: Life in the Rainforest.” The story takes place in a magical version of the Amazon Rainforest, where the as the main character, Tango, introduces readers to meet his friends, teaching children about their diverse interests and roles in the rainforest. The book explores themes of nature, diversity, friendship, and imagination.
