Artist Biography
Derek Quatieri will graduate from Endicott College in May 2023 with a BFA in Interior Architecture. Derek is part of the Endicott Scholars Program and has been placed on the Dean’s List for several semesters. Throughout his Endicott journey, Derek has completed internships at design firms offering single-family residential projects and multifamily, affordable housing projects, with the most recent firm being The Architectural Team, Inc. Derek aims to advance his interest in residential design post-graduation and continue establishing close connections with clients and fellow designers alike. In his free time, Derek enjoys reading, doing puzzles, and working on personal design projects on various digital programs.
Thesis Abstract
Suicide is the second top leading cause of death among individuals aged 15-24 in the United States. Predominating treatments for suicide-affected patients include various forms of psychotherapy, most notably CBT and DBT. With the world’s growing interest in biophilia and how nature provides restorative benefits to humans, SOAR Support Haven proposes an addendum to the current working model of suicide prevention and recovery centers; the implementation of nature in both traditional and unconventional therapies for suicide is proposed as the solution to more individualized journeys of recovery and to the elimination of the mental health stigma associated with seeking help from suicidal ideation and attempts.
