Bailey Ouellette

Artist Biography

Bailey Ouellette is a graduating senior majoring in graphic design at Endicott College. She is from Rochester, New Hampshire, and has spent much of her life by the water. When she was very little, her great-grandmother taught her how to paint, which sparked a lifelong love of art and encouraged her to pursue graphic design in college. She loves art, music, and the outdoors, and is passionate about learning new things and improving her design skills. Bailey loves designing because it gives her a way to be creative and challenge herself, while also allowing her to create something that can be impactful and connect with others. When she was 14 she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, and understands what it is like to deal with a health condition that requires constant management. Her experiences with Type 1 lead her to want to create something that could connect to other people like her and other people in their lives. She hopes that her designs can connect to people and make them feel seen and comfortable. She plans to stay in the New England area after graduation but hopes that one day she will be able to travel the world.

Thesis Abstract

Ocean Odyssey is an immersive summer festival dedicated to raising awareness for Type 1 Diabetes. There is not much recognition around Type 1 Diabetes, so this event brings awareness to a wide audience while also creating a safe space for those dealing with Type 1. An odyssey is an adventurous journey or experience; the event is called Ocean Odyssey because it is meant to be an eventful journey, and ideally, attendees will be changed for the better after the experience.

The event has a bright ocean theme with vibrant colors and illustrated creatures and scenes, all intended to help create a fun and welcoming feeling. This project included creating a complete brand identity, a website and app design, posters, marketing campaigns, a map, event signage, merchandise, and more. All aspects of the event are connected through the use of similar colors, shapes, scenes, and characters. Every part of the festival was designed with the audience in mind. This includes placing identifiable medical stations on the map for those who may need them, and the app which was designed to be interactive within the park. The target audience for this event is anyone who has an interest in going, especially people with diabetes and their friends and families.
