Thesis Abstract
The purpose of this thesis was to design an eye-catching feminist magazine that would appeal to a young adult audience and get them to become involved in the issue. The magazine is very expressionistic in style through the integration of type and imagery. The majority of the imagery is original and provided by fellow Photography students, Emma Hess and Jordyn Valencourt. This project consisted of creating a masthead and three different cover designs, a magazine, a website, and promotional products.
Three different magazine covers were created to provide the idea as to how each issue may appear in design style and graphical elements. Each article in the magazine has a distinct style to help separate them from each other. Imagery and design choices were related back to the topics in order to construct the appropriate feel to aid in the portrayal of the information. The website continues the branding of the magazine through the use of colors, shapes and the treatment of imagery and type. This demonstrates how the magazine would function on a digital platform. Promotional products will only be available through the online store which are uniquely designed for EMPOWHER. The purchase of these products would allow people to show their support for the magazine as well as the feminist movement.
