Alexandra Williams

Artist Biography

Alexandra is a senior interior design major at Endicott College. In addition to her passion for interior design Alexandra also has a love of dance and musical theater. After viewing a production of Deaf West Spring Awakening, a musical in which d/Deaf actors perform alongside with hearing actors using sign language interconnected with choreography, she fell in love with how beautiful and artistic American Sign Language is. This musical was one of the main inspirations of her final senior thesis. Connecting the beauty of sign language with the beauty of interior design she created a final thesis that synergistically combines the two art forms.
After graduation, Alexandra hopes to work in the hospitality design field creating environments that inspire and entrance the users. She hopes to move to the seacoast area of her home state, New Hampshire.

Thesis Abstract

Being Deaf or hard of hearing can be an isolating experience. creating a hospitality environment specifically designed for people who are deaf or hard of hearing will create opportunities for people to form stronger bonds. This environment will also connect Deaf people from all over the world.
