Artist Biography
Samantha DeCesare is a senior at Endicott College graduating with a BFA in Interior Architecture. During her time at Endicott, she has completed two major internships, obtained Deans’ List during several semesters, and won Deans’ Choice Award for her textile design. She is also very proud and honored to be nominated for the Thesis Interior Architecture Award. Following graduation, she will be working as an Interior Designer at Mackenzie & Co., a residential firm located on Cape Cod.
Her thesis, True North Youth Center, reimagined aging out of the foster care system for young women. This thesis focuses on the sociology of young adults in the foster system- the mind, body, and soul. Using all aspects of design, Samantha designed educational, therapeutic, residential, and physical wellness spaces to promote a concept of home and belonging.
Thesis Abstract
20,000 – 30,000 children age out of the foster care system each year. To reimagine the system and prepare the youth for adulthood, there needs to be a focus on the mind, body, and soul in the disciplines of education, physical wellbeing, and mental health.
