Thesis Abstract
Hinoé is a sustainable, all-natural soap and skincare brand. This brand is dedicated to my mother, to thank and honor her for providing handmade, all-natural soap for my family while I was growing up. The purpose of Hinoé is to create an example of a plastic-free packaging system within the cosmetic industry that is appealing and cohesive, as well as wasteless as possible. My goal is to inspire others to appreciate soap and skincare, in the same way, that my mother has.
Hinoé addresses plastic usage in cosmetic packaging, and seeks to provide a solution that is useful, natural, and prevents plastic waste. The brand values center around sustainability as a company, natural ingredients, as well as inclusivity in its target audience. Plastic waste on a corporate scale is a huge problem that contributes to global warming, and reducing plastic production would save fossil fuel use and reduce carbon emissions. My thesis demonstrates the benefits of plastic-free packaging and how aligning a business with sustainable values can add to a brand’s success and identity.
