Thesis Abstract

This Senior Capstone project explores how interior architecture can support mental and physical health within the first responder community. Designers can achieve this by creating a space where first responders can nourish and be open about mental and physical health. By recognizing the emotional and psychological toll faced by renters. The design aims to blend function, comfort, and therapeutic spatial elements.

The goal of the design was to create spaces that promote healing and education, mentally and physically. This is done through material selection, biophilic design, and thoughtful spatial programming. Through research, interviews, and case studies the project identities key environmental stressors and design opportunities.

The spaces include relaxation areas like yoga, acupuncture, art therapy and sensory rooms. Along with active spaces like a gym, physical rehab, sauna, and cryotherapy. Communal spaces, cafe and lounge and private spaces for group and private therapy. This project highlights the role of design to help and address trauma for everyday heros in our community.
