This exhibition features work created at the Tortuga Escondida artist residency at the edge of the Mayan jungle, as well as works from a series of paintings developed in the fall of 2019 which examine the complexity of beauty in the age of the Anthropocene. The Akumal Papers are works on paper, serving as documents of where place becomes presence, are portable, and serve as curious evidence in a time where slippage between witness and perception is palpable. Detailed drawings surface and submerge in richly saturated color fields, often with titles suggesting clues for investigation.
