Thesis Abstract
In contemporary America, despite significant strides in gender equality, the mental health of women remains a pressing concern. This thesis project, “Women’s Power and Wellness,” addresses this issue by focusing on the intersection of mental and physical health within the realm of interior architecture. In recognizing the importance of prioritizing women’s overall well-being, this project advocates for a holistic approach to health education, emphasizing the interconnectedness of the mind, spirit and body. Research shows that women are disproportionately affected by various mental health disorders, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and eating disorders, which profoundly impact their daily lives. Research also proves that physical activity is the best natural ways of curing these disorders that are most prominently seen within women. Through innovative design strategies and a commitment to holistic health principles, “Women’s Power and Wellness” seeks to redefine the role of interior architecture in promoting mental and physical well-being for women in contemporary society. This study proposes that establishing a variety of support resources and services is crucial to cultivating secure and supportive environments for women to thrive. By acknowledging the complex interplay between the mind and body and providing spaces that nurture both aspects of health, this project endeavors to create a brighter, more empowered future for women everywhere.
