Sara Nobes is graduating from her fifth year at Endicott College with a MA in Interior Architecture. She completed her undergraduate degree in 2019 with a BFA in Interior Design and a minor in Studio Art. During her time at school, she completed three internships at Specs Design Group, Brican Inc. and Shawn Henderson Interior Design. This year, she has been gaining experience in teaching Interior Architecture at Endicott through a TA position, tutoring, and teaching an electronic media class. She plans to continue teaching in the Fall and hopes to work at a firm in the design field as well.

Sara’s thesis topic was inspired by the migraines that she and her family experience which cause temporary blindness. During her time at her New York City internship, she grew to become very familiar with taking public transportation and she found that it heavily relies on sight. When her brother struggled to take the train home one day due to a migraine, she became passionate about finding ways to make design more intuitive and accessible for everyone.

Thesis Abstract

The design of a transportation hub can guide users with low sight to their desired destination without their only resources being staff, sighted guides or technology. This will be achieved through truly universal design strategies that focus on the visually impaired, but assist people of all abilities as well.
